I’m the founder of Derivatives Lab and FIT Legal, a boutique legal consultancy. I’m a legal counsel, an entrepreneur and investor. I have over a decade of experience working in the banking and finance industry. I started as a trainee in a law firm and qualified into commercial litigation. It took me less than a month post qualification to figure out that I was not cut for private practice.

When searching for my next adventure, I came across a niche of lawyers specialising in trading agreements and derivatives; like tax lawyers, they seemed to be representing a very different breed. Soon enough, the vision of becoming a legal counsel working for a global investment bank became a dream and I decided to pursue a career in this field. Opportunity met with preparation, and I joined Credit Suisse as their legal counsel and negotiator shortly after leaving private practice. I will never forget the day I was told I got the job – I was ecstatic!

I spent a fantastic couple of years heading Credit Suisse’s OTC documentation team in Poland and then returned to London to continue working as their legal counsel within the global prime advisory group. 

Hungry to explore more opportunities within the industry, I then decided to move to the buy-side and joined Man Group plc, the world’s largest listed hedge fund manager. I had a fantastic time at Man - this is where I grew and developed not only as a derivatives lawyer, but also as a manager co-heading their Prime Brokerage and Trading Legal team in London.

Having experienced the industry from different perspectives and angles, I felt like it was time for a more drastic change. 

I believe that life begins at the end of your comfort zone and I felt the need to challenge myself even more and stop holding back. I mustered the courage to bust through the society-imposed glass ceiling of having a 9 to 5 job. I decided to take ownership of my own career, and left the corporate life for good.

Today, I have my own legal consultancy business - FIT Legal, and I’m the founder of Derivatives Lab, and a creative force behind two other companies. I work with executives from investment managers, asset allocators and corporates from all over the world.

Derivatives Lab is a platform offering access to know-how which cannot be acquired through traditional academic means. I remember feeling stuck, not understanding the industry jargon, relying on a self-made list of investment banking abbreviations and an 800-page long book on how to master the ISDA.

Derivatives Lab is all I wish I had access to when I was starting my career in this industry. I hope you enjoy it!

I’m positively obsessed with the limitless nature of human potential and believe that there is a certain power in learning from each other.
